When I started working at HealthSparq the app used a single search bar. We found through user feedback that users often didn't know they could search for anything more than a doctor, when in reality there were multiple categories of content to search for. The new design presents the categories up front which teaches the user what is available on the site. Doing this also helped clean up the auto suggest so it was targeted at only one category.
